Small steps....

Small steps indeed! These were supposed to be quick little studies, but are turning out to be much more. With tack, ropes, bits, leather....whew. It is just a series of glazing color over color, the key is to see past the stage you are on. Building a strong foundation is the key to a good painting. I am happy with the progression so far.

Working Class-WIP

Just adding in the backgrounds and layers...this is the fun part, unfortunately it is also the slow part!

Work in progress-Working Class

As usual, I am running behind. The San Dimas Western Show is just around the corner and I am cranking to get work out. These are two of four 5x7 oils in a series I am doing called The Working Class. Every horse I am painting work at various jobs at ranches in the midwest. The top is a pleasure horse that shows regularly, and successfully, in Minnesota. The next is a cutting horse on a ranch in South Dakota. This is just the underpainting for both, I love the color burnt orange for my basic layouts. I will glaze the direct colors over them in the next few days. Stay tuned...

Cardinals everywhere!

It is that time of year where there are cardinals pairing up and all over the place. This is our mailbox and swag.
